the same location where EasyData also has an office and actively develops AI applications.
ABBYY was founded in 1989 by a group of linguists and engineers. In the early nineties, the company conducted research into data capture, linguistic analysis and text recognition. OCR technology research was funded by revenue from Lingvo, an advanced electronic dictionary that was extremely popular in the 1990s.
ABBYY Lingvo Legacy
EasyData supported Lingvo license sales until 2015, demonstrating how long Lingvo maintained its competitive advantage over free online translation services. Today the market has evolved and even Online OCR services are easily accessible to everyone.

Lingvo was something special, and with the launch of FineReader, expectations within the technical user community were high. In the nineties, optical character recognition (OCR) for recognizing text on scanned documents was still in its infancy.

EasyData delivered its first FineReader runtime in an OCR text recognition product in 1999. This was designed for Océ, then an independent Dutch manufacturer of multifunction / all-in-one printers. After this successful start, EasyData sold custom solutions in a standard package to many more MFP suppliers.

With ABBYY’s developments around FlexiCapture, FlexiCapture technology eventually made its way into EasySeparate. EasyData achieved successful integrations including invoice recognition.
